8. O taste and see

O taste: The restrained supporting role of the lemon in lemon-cherry thumbprint cookies, from a coworker who labored in her kitchen on Labor Day.

O see: The dimpled hint of a grin from the visiting toddler.

O hear: The percussion of little shoes accelerating on carpet under the melody of "Hi, Daddy!"
The clap-clap-clap that means she's happy and she knows it.
The ratchet of a grasshopper on a short flight.

O smell: A familiar-plus-exotic fruity tang as the lid is lifted on a Corningware casserole bearing strawberry-rhubarb cake.
The earthiness of steamed vegetables and rice.

O feel: Dryer-warmed clothes on shower-cooled skin.

What did you sense today?
