"You know you've been refreshed and renewed. How?"
The question hung in the silent air at the end of a dramatization of the book of Colossians. It took us a minute to realize that was the end. Or maybe we were wondering whether the actor had broken character and was asking the audience. The weekend retreat called Hutchmoot was almost over. We did know it; we had been refreshed and renewed.
How?
I'm going to ponder that in my heart for a while.
Grateful today for these things, and more:
Attending church with a friend from way back.
The way hands held in prayer seem to pulse with a single shared heartbeat.
The one who saved me a last-minute place at the lunch table.
Hearing a story, and then a less shiny version, and being reminded that so many of the stories we live are like this, heads and tails, flip sides of the same coin.
Closing the gathering by singing the Doxology together, which somehow also carried the essence of "Blessed Be the Tie That Binds" and "The Lord Bless You and Keep You."
Telephone companionship on the drive home with a friend I can trust with the less shiny sides of my coins.
What are you grateful for today?
