48. The attentive baby

The baby noticed the colorful object in front of her face a while before she reached out and touched it. She gauged its distance, decided it wasn't too far to reach, and grasped part of it. She stretched the part that could be stretched; she gripped through that part to the solid part inside; she put both of her hands on it and turned it slightly in the air. She was giving all her attention to it, finding its properties, testing its ranges and limitations. She took her time. She did not rush. And when she was done, she gently let go of my socked foot.

I am not sure why it delighted me so much to have a baby grasp my foot and stretch my sock, but it did.  Other delights and marvels of the day at Hutchmoot, which has been, to borrow Andy Crouch's words, good, very good, and glorious:

Bacon.
Charlie Peacock talking about the stewardship of words.
Hearing how a couple have made the good of marriage very good by simplifying.
Singing hymns in an impromptu gathering.
Robert Farrar Capon quoted as grace before dinner.
Asparagus.
Telling dinner stories about our mothers.
Hearing the stories behind tattoos.
Talking shop with a Cokesbury rep.
A delightful, funny, inspiring talk by Luci N. Shaw, exhorting us all to honor God's fingerprint on each of us.

What was glorious about your day?
